Against the background of Norway's chairship of the Arctic Council, the following analysis portrays Norway as an Arctic state. In addition to an overview of Norway's Arctic, the focus is on the following topics: Economy, security, indigenous population, science, and cooperation between Germany and Norway.

Geographically speaking, almost half of Norway's land mass is Arctic territory. Norway has a strong identity as a northern European country and, since the early 2000s, also as an Arctic country. The first official Arctic strategy was published by the Norwegian government in 2006. Since then, the strategy has been modified twice at irregular intervals, and a white paper was published in 20215.

Germany and Norway are close partners in Europe, which have moved even closer in terms of energy and security policy, not least due to the war in Ukraine. In the Arctic, the two countries work together primarily in scientific research. The AWI should be mentioned here in particular.
